What's So Great About the Recipe?

My favorite part about this blueberry cobbler recipe is the fact that it is nothing short of genius.

Think about it- to prepare the flour topping for the cobbler, you’d usually need flour, baking powder, sugar and butter, and this recipe just simplifies it so much by just using a boxed cake mix.

It’s super easy and delicious, and packs in the goodness of fresh fruit, which is a big win in my books!

Is it the Same as a Dump Cake?

Actually, no! The difference between a classic blueberry dump cake and this easy blueberry cobbler recipe is the fact that a dump cake usually has layers of the blueberries, as opposed to a cobbler, where the fruit is at the bottom, and topped with a crumbly cake mix.

They’re similar, but not the same.

Blueberries: I used frozen blueberries to form the base. You can use fresh blueberries too.

Cake mix: You’ll need white or yellow cake mix.

Butter: To prepare the cake mix topping, you’ll need a stick of butter. You can choose unsalted butter or salted butter- whatever you prefer.

Variations

  • Instead of using just blueberries, you can also use some mixed frozen berries.
  • When you’re able to get your hands on some fresh peaches in season, you can also make a nice peach cobbler.
  • If you’re unable to find fresh or frozen blueberries, you can also make do with some blueberry pie filling instead.

💭Top Tip

If you’re making this recipe for a crowd, layer the blueberries evenly in the prepared pan to ensure that they’re all perfectly cooked.

Equipment

How to Store the Leftover Blueberry Cobbler

The easiest way to store leftover cobbler is to cover it up in cling wrap or a silicone cover, and then refrigerate it.

The cobbler dump cake can stay fresh for 3-4 days.

You can then warm it up in the microwave and serve it again when you want to.

Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe

While this delicious cobbler recipe is super easy and straightforward, you might want to take note of these little tips and tricks too.

  • Remember to grease your ramekins with some cooking spray or melted butter to make it easier for you to remove the cake mix cobbler from the bottom of the pan.
  • Make sure you don’t overmix the butter and cake mix. You’ll only need to combine it until the cake mix crumbles and sort of comes together, but isn’t like a dough.
  • While this is a simple recipe and needs just three ingredients, you’ll want to be careful and find the right balance between the amount of fruit and topping you’re using. Just stick to the proportions I’ve used in the recipe, and you should be good.

How to Serve the 3 Ingredient Blueberry Cobbler

The simplest, classic way to serve this easy and delicious dessert is to enjoy the warm cobbler on its own, or with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Another great idea is to top it with some whipped cream and some more fresh fruit.
