Thick, creamy, sweet and refreshing, this classic mango lassi is the best way to cool down on a hot summer afternoon, or wash down your favorite Indian curry and naan.
All you'll need is 10 minutes, some fresh mangos and a handful of kitchen staples to make this restaurant-style mango lassi.

Lassi is classic Indian summer drink made with yogurt, sugar and cardamom. This Mango flavored version is a fantastic upgrade, and a great way to enjoy the fruit.
Every time I find fresh mangos, I almost always end up making my mango con Tajin, mango Tanghulu or a bowl of fresh mango pico de gallo. This time, I wanted to make a refreshing drink with the fruit, and I ended up making mango iced tea, but true to my Indian roots, of course I just HAD to try the OG lassi too!

What's So Great About the Recipe?
My favorite part about this recipe is how effortless it really is. It barely takes 10 minutes to make, and it always turns out perfect every single time.
It's also a great way to use up fresh mangos. I almost always end up making this or turn to my simple mango shrikhand recipe.
Recipe Ingredients

Mango: You'll need fresh, ripe mangos for the mango pulp. I used Alphonso mangos, but any other variety can work well.
Cardamom: This one's optional, but it adds a beautiful layer of flavor to the lassi. If you don't have whole cardamom, use a pinch of cardamom powder.
Yogurt: Thick, fresh, unsweetened yogurt. I love using homemade yogurt, but packaged yogurt works perfectly fine too.
Brown sugar: For the sweetness with a hint of caramel-like flavor. You can use white sugar too, if that's what you prefer.

Substitutions & Variations
- If you're using sweetened yogurt, skip adding the sugar.
- Want the lassi to have a thicker consistency and more protein? Use Greek yogurt for the base.
- If you don't want to use sugar and prefer a natural sweetener, try maple syrup or honey.
How to Make Mango Lassi

Step 1: Combine all the ingredients in a blender jar and blend for 2 minutes or until smooth and creamy.

Step 2: Pour into glasses, top with some more mango chunks (optional) and serve.
💭Top Tip
If you're using whole cardamom, make sure you remove the outside and discard it, and just use the tiny black seeds on the inside.

How to Store the Leftover Mango Lassi
If you have some leftover mango lassi, you can refrigerate it for up to a day and enjoy it whenever you to. Simply pour it into the glass you want to serve it in, and cover it with cling wrap or a lid-easy peasy!
If you ended up making more of the lassi than you can consume, pour it into popsicle moulds and freeze to make the most refreshing creamy mango popsicles.
Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Make sure you use fresh yogurt. Yogurt that is a day or two old can make the lassi tangy and sour.
- If the mango lassi tastes more a bit too tangy, consider adding a bit of milk and giving it a quick blitz once again.
- Make sure you use chilled yogurt to make the lassi- this drink tastes best when served cold- just like the classic masala buttermilk.
- You can also top the lassi with some sliced almonds and pistachios before you serve.

How to Serve Mango Lassi
Enjoy this refreshing mango lassi on its own as a drink on a hot summer day. I love making and serving this as an evening snack with my grilled tandoori corn or cashew pakoras with some tandoori mayo sauce.
This refreshing drink also tastes great when served with some classic Indian chicken malai tikka or white chicken karahi, a side of bullet naan or garlic turmeric rice and a salad like laccha onions and some masala papad.

Recipe FAQs
You can! Canned mangos and mango pulp can usually be a bit tangy, so you may need to adjust the amount of sugar you're adding.
You can! I would recommend using almond milk yogurt for best results. Any other plant based yogurt won't give you the same flavor.
