What's So Great About the Recipe?
My favorite part about this refreshing summer dessert is the fact that it is naturally dairy-free, gluten free, paleo friendly, and has no added sugar.
It is also super easy to make, and if you’re not a dessert person like me, you’ll love how quickly it comes together.
Ingredients For the Watermelon Lime Sorbet Recipe
You’ll need just 3 simple ingredients to make this refreshing and delicious sweet treat.
Watermelon: Fresh watermelon, of course! Choose one that is ripe, sweet, and ideally has a bright red color.
Lime: Lime juice, with its tanginess, balances the sweetness of the sorbet.
Honey: I also added a dash of honey to add some extra sweetness to the sorbet. You can skip this one and make it a simple 2-ingredient watermelon sorbet.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make Watermelon Sorbet in the Blender
Ready with all the ingredients? Here’s what you’ll need to do to make the watermelon sorbet in the blender.
Step 1: Peel and cut a watermelon into cubes. De-seed them and freeze them overnight.
Step 2: Add the frozen watermelon chunks into the blender jar along with the lime juice and honey and blend.
Step 3: Once it reaches a scoopable consistency, use an ice cream scoop to transfer it to individual serving glasses.
Step 4: Top with mint leaves, and serve!
Substitutions & Variations
- If you don’t have lime juice, feel free to use lemon juice instead.
- To get some extra tanginess and citrusy deliciousness into the sorbet, add some lime zest into the mix too!
💭Top Tip
You can also bring in a bit of variation to the flavor and add some other summer fruits of your choice along with the watermelon. I love using pineapples and mangos in particular!

How to Store the Leftover Frozen Treats
If you have any leftover sorbet, you can put it back in the freezer after transferring it to a freezer-safe container.
If you don’t have one, you can simply move it to a clean container with an airtight lid and place a cling wrap on the surface before putting the lid on. Doing this helps keep the ice crystals from forming, and you’ll get the perfect texture you’re looking for.
You can also choose to prep this sorbet in advance. Simply transfer the frozen watermelon cubes to a freezer-safe container and store them for up to a week. Then, all you need to do is blend them and they’re ready to serve.
Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- To make this watermelon sorbet creamier, you can add some coconut milk into the mix too. If you’re doing this, however, you’ll probably need to skip adding the lime juice.
- Sorbets are best made in an ice cream maker or a Vitamix, but if you don’t have one, and don’t have a high-powered blender either, just use your food processor on the high-speed setting and it should work just as great.
- Make sure you allow the cubed watermelon to chill in the freezer for at least 6 hours, if not longer. Doing this will ensure that it doesn’t start to melt and turn into a slushy when you blend it.
- To ensure that the watermelon cubes are completely frozen solid, arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet, pop them in the freezer, and freeze overnight.
- You can also choose to top this refreshing treat with a pinch of sea salt. The combination of salt and lime juice can take this sweet treat to the next level.
- If the watermelon has turned into a liquid-like consistency, don’t worry. Simply pour the mixture into popsicle molds and let it set. You’ve got some fruity popsicles ready!
How to Serve the Healthy Watermelon Lime Sorbet
This 3-ingredient watermelon sorbet screams summer and is the perfect juicy and healthy dessert to make and serve at all your BBQs and outdoor grilling parties and get-togethers.
I love pairing it with my summer salads and grilling experiments, particularly my strawberry and pineapple salsa and my grilled Tandoori corn.
FAQs
Yes! The easiest way to make vegan lime sorbet is to swap the honey for another natural sweetener of your choice, or just skip adding the honey altogether.
If you’re buying a whole watermelon, the first step to check for its ripeness is to hold it. If it feels heavy for its size, it can be a good choice. Also, remember to check the bottom of the watermelon. If it looks creamy yellow in color and makes a deep, hollow sound when you tap it, it should be good.
