Rich, creamy, tangy, and spicy, this avocado lime crema is going to be your next favorite condiment.
It takes just a few minutes and some pantry staples to make, and is perfect to team up with some spicy shrimp tacos or use as a dip with your tortilla chips. Plus, it is naturally gluten-free, vegan-adaptable, and SO much better than most of those packaged, store-bought sauces out there.

I absolutely love avocados and keep experimenting with recipes using it. I've tried making a creamy avocado butter spread and a nice avocado green goddess dressing recently, and everyone absolutely loved them both.
I also made a big batch of guacamole to go with my tacos, but I really wanted to try a slightly different version too- something that I could serve as a dip with some snacks and appetizers, and that's when I tried this recipe.

What's So Great About the Recipe?
- It comes together in just 5 minutes, and is the simplest, no-cook condiment you can make.
- Just like my Mexican chili oil, it is really versatile, and can be paired with pretty much anything.
Recipe Ingredients

Avocado: Use the best quality fresh, ripe avocados you can find. Use any leftovers that you may have to make a simple avocado Pico de Gallo later!
Sour cream: Sour cream actually forms the base for this dip. It has a nice slightly tangy flavor, which works wonderfully along with the other ingredients.
Cilantro: Fresh cilantro is what really brings that nice green color to the crema. You can
Garlic: I used 2-3 fresh garlic cloves for this recipe, and sometimes even use my Air Fryer roasted garlic. If you don't have fresh garlic, a dash of garlic powder can do the trick too.
Jalapenos: Jalapenos lend the creamy avocado crema that spicy kick and also bring in a bit of the green color.
Lime juice: Fresh lemon juice or lime juice thins out the crema naturally, and gives it that fresh, tangy flavor.
Seasonings: I used Kosher salt and a dash of freshly crushed black pepper to season the crema sauce. You can stick to using regular salt or even use some jalapeno infused salt.

Substitutions & Variations
- While this crema is best made with sour cream, you can use Greek yogurt as an alternative if you don't have sour cream. Just remember to use unflavored Greek yogurt.
- To make the creamy avocado lime crema spicier, you can add a dash of smoky cayenne pepper or my homemade Tajin seasoning into the mix.
- You can also experiment and add other ingredients like ground cumin , lemon zest, oregano or paprika to the sauce to make this recipe more flavorful.
- If you're not a fan of cilantro, you can use fresh parsley instead.
How to Make the Avocado Lime Crema

Add all the ingredients to your food processor or blender jar.

Blend to get a smooth, uniform mixture. Taste and adjust if needed.
💭Top Tip
Don't bother to remove the stems off the cilantro- they're going to get blended in anyway. Cilantro stems actually taste great and lend a nice bit of flavor to this sauce.

Shahida's Tips & Tricks
- Remember to use fresh, ripe avocado to get the best creamy taste and flavor. If you have avocados that are slightly raw, you can ripen them quickly.
- You don't need to add any water to the crema. All the ingredients used should get the dip to the perfect consistency. If you still feel the need to thin it out, you can add a couple of spoonfuls of milk to it and give it a quick blitz again.
- Remember to allow the sauce to refrigerate for 15-20 minutes before you serve it.
- I love a smooth and creamy consistency, but if you like those chunky bits of avocado, blend the mixture only for a minute or two- like I did when I made my garlic avocado spread.
How to Serve Avocado Lime Crema
This avocado lime crema can be perfect for tacos and nachos. I love teaming it up with fish tacos and my Texas toothpicks. You can also spoon it over some Mexican deviled eggs, my favorite Mexican baked potatoes, or even serve it with some spicy chicken Taquitos.
In fact, it is SO versatile, you can also use it as a spread for your breakfast toast, some keto everything bagels, and pair it with Mexican sides like Mexican roasted potatoes.

Troubleshooting & FAQs
Just like most other dips and condiments, I would recommend storing it in an airtight container and refrigerating it. You can store the avocado crema in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Make sure you always use a clean spoon to serve it and put the lid back on and refrigerate the leftovers immediately.
With enough lime juice, this avocado crema will retain its color, and won't turn brown like an avocado would. That said, you can always add some extra lime juice to the crema on the top, and even after you've transferred it into a container for storage.
This lime crema can be frozen, but the process of freezing and thawing will ruin the color and flavor of the sauce.
