The fries make a hearty base, while the fresh toppings add crunch to every forkful. It is a fun dinner when you want something you can pile into a bowl and customize with your favorite burger toppings.
I recently made a savory breakfast bowl and tried a chicken Fajita rice bowl recipe too, and they both turned out to be big hits. And that's what inspired me to try this recipe.

What's So Great About the Recipe?
- Burger and fries in one bowl: The crisp potatoes sit underneath savory beef, cheese and fresh toppings.
- Quick to put together: Use the time while the fries cook to brown the beef and prepare the sauce.
- Easy to customize: Adjust the heat, cheese and crunchy toppings to suit your taste. Try my jalapeño lime mayo or peppercorn mayonnaise sauce which taste fantastic with this!
Recipe Ingredients

Ground beef: Lean ground beef works best here. You can use ground chicken or ground turkey too.
Russet potato: Cut it into evenly sized fries so the pieces cook at a similar rate.
Veggies: Some fresh iceberg lettuce and cherry tomatoes to bulk up the bowl, and red onion to add a bite.
Dill pickles: For that tangy, salty deliciousness. Also use a bit of the dill pickle juice for the sauce!
Shredded cheese: Cheddar is a good choice for a classic cheeseburger flavor. Sprinkle it over the warm beef if you want it to soften.
Seasonings: The classics- garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and paprika. I also added a bit of my mixed herb seasoning.
Sauces: Mayonnaise, Sriracha and yellow mustard to create a creamy, savory and slightly smoky burger sauce. I like using my Sriracha mayo sauce here sometimes.
See the recipe card below for quantities.
Substitutions & Variations
- Change up the toppings! Add sliced jalapeños, avocado or extra pickles. I love using pickled shredded carrots and lime pickled onions.
- Make it milder- reduce or leave out the Sriracha in the sauce.
- Use frozen fries- cook according to the package directions, then build the bowl as usual. Sometimes, I like to make my Air Fryer shoestring fries and use them as the base.
How to Make Loaded Cheeseburger Bowl

Step 1: Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, onion powder, garlic powder, half the paprika and mixed herb seasoning, and salt and pepper. Break up the meat with a spatula.

Step 2: Cook the beef, stirring and breaking up any large pieces, until browned and cooked through. Ground beef should reach 160°F (71°C). Set aside while you finish the fries.

Step 3: Peel the potato and slice it into evenly sized fries. Pat the pieces thoroughly dry with kitchen towels.

Step 4: Toss the fries with a little oil, the remaining paprika and mixed herb seasoning, salt and pepper. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).

Step 5: Whisk the mayonnaise, Sriracha, yellow mustard and pickle juice together until smooth. Halve the cherry tomatoes, chop the lettuce and thinly slice the red onion.

Step 6: Spread the fries in the air fryer basket without crowding. Air fry for 12–15 minutes, shaking or turning partway through, until golden and crisp. Cook in batches if necessary.
Assemble the bowl: Add the hot fries and cooked beef, then the lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and pickles. Spoon over the burger sauce and finish with shredded cheese. Add as much sauce as you like and serve immediately.
💭 Top Tip
Keep the sauce and fresh toppings separate until you are ready to eat. Tossing everything together too early softens the fries and wilts the lettuce.

Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Cut the fries evenly and dry them well before seasoning; excess surface water makes crisping harder.
- Leave space around the fries for hot air to circulate. If using a liner, follow your air fryer instructions and never preheat with loose parchment inside.
- Taste the sauce before adding it to the bowl. Pickle juice, mustard and Sriracha all bring salt or acidity.
- Bulk up the beef filling by adding chopped mushrooms or bell peppers- like I did when I made chicken sloppy joes.
- For the quickest meal, start the fries and cook the beef while they air fry. The timing depends on the thickness of your fries and your appliance.
- Experiment with different toppings and mix-ins like quick pickled red cabbage and sundried tomato aioli.
How to Serve Loaded Cheeseburger Bowl
Serve this bowl while the fries and beef are warm and the vegetables are crisp. You can try different toppings like marinated tomatoes (which I always end up using when I don't have cherry tomatoes), caramelized onions or balsamic pickled onions, or even boiled or charred corn, like I used in my copycat KFC chicken bowl.
For a family dinner, multiply the recipe and set out the toppings and sauce so everyone can build their own bowl.

Troubleshooting and FAQs
They may be too wet or crowded in the basket. Dry the cut potatoes thoroughly, use a light coating of oil and leave room for air to circulate. Add the sauce only when serving.
Yes. Prepare the fries in the oven using a method suited to their thickness, or use oven fries cooked according to the package directions. Keep the skillet beef, toppings and sauce the same.
Prepare and store the components separately. Reheat the beef and fries, then add the fresh vegetables, cheese and sauce just before eating.
Refrigerate the cooked beef and fries in separate shallow, airtight containers within 2 hours and use within 3–4 days.
Reheat the beef in a skillet or microwave and crisp the fries in the air fryer.

- 115 g ground beef
- 1 russet potato sliced into fries
- 5-6 cherry tomatoes halved
- 1-2 iceberg lettuce chopped
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon mixed herb seasoning
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Sriracha
- 1 red onion
- ¼ cup pickled cucumbers
- 1 tablespoon pickle juice
- ¼ cup shredded cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add the ground beef, onion and garlic powder, half of the paprika and mixed herb seasoning, salt and pepper.
- Sauté for a few minutes on medium heat until the beef starts browning. Remove and set aside.
- Peel and slice the Russet potato into fries, and pat them dry with kitchen towels to remove all moisture.
- Transfer them to a bowl. Season with salt, pepper, paprika and mixed herb seasoning and a bit of oil.
- Preheat the Air Fryer at 400°F. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Sriracha, yellow mustard and pickle juice. This will be the burger sauce.
- Arrange the seasoned fries in a lined Air Fryer basket and air fry for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Start building the cheeseburger bowl with the seasoned fries, ground beef, halved cherry tomatoes, shredded lettuce and pickles. Spoon the burger sauce over the top and finish up with the shredded cheese.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef for the best results. You can also swap it with ground chicken or turkey for a different variation.
- Break up the ground beef with a spatula while cooking so it browns evenly. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Cut the Russet potato into evenly sized fries and pat them thoroughly dry before seasoning to help them turn crispy in the air fryer.
- Arrange the fries in a single layer without overcrowding the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary and shake the basket halfway through for even browning.
- Use frozen French fries instead of fresh potatoes to save time. Cook them according to the package instructions before assembling the bowl.
- Adjust the amount of Sriracha in the burger sauce depending on your spice preference, or leave it out for a milder version.
- Add sliced jalapeños, avocado, caramelized onions, or extra pickles to customize your cheeseburger bowl.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the warm ground beef if you prefer it slightly melted.
- Prepare the burger sauce and chop the vegetables ahead of time, but assemble the bowl just before serving to keep the fries crispy and the lettuce fresh.
- Store leftover beef and fries separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat the beef until thoroughly hot and crisp up the fries in the air fryer before serving.
