What's So Great About the Recipe?
I’m a big fan of simple, no-cook recipes, and this one’s just that!
You’ll just need 10 minutes to put everything together, and the result is a fancy looking (and addictive) snack that everyone will love!
And best of all, it is vegan and gluten-free too.
Ingredients For the Tajin and Chamoy Apples Recipe
Apples: Use fresh, ripe apples, ideally ones that don’t have any soft spots or blemishes on their surface. All kinds of apples work well for this recipe- I used a mix of red and green apples here for that nice bit of color.
Chamoy sauce: For that thick, luscious deliciousness and that kick of heat. I used my homemade Chamoy sauce here.
Lime juice: I used fresh lime juice to help keep the apple slices from browning, and also for that nice bit of citrusy tanginess it brings.
Tajin seasoning: I used my homemade Tajin seasoning mix here. It’s incredibly easy to make and needs just a few simple ingredients. Feel free to use the store-bought version if that’s what you have at hand.
See recipe card for quantities.
Substitutions & Variations
- Don’t have Chamoy sauce? Use your favorite hot sauce or some Sriracha instead. Just remember to start with a little, as it can be quite spicy.
- To balance the heat from the hot sauce, mix a bit of honey or some brown sugar with it.
- Don’t have lime juice? Lemon juice works well too!
How to Make Tajin and Chamoy Apples
Start by washing and pat drying the apples.
Step 1: Use a sharp knife to cut the apples into thin slices.
Step 2: Drizzle freshly squeezed lime juice over the apples and mix well.
Step 3: Top the apple slices with a dash of Chamoy sauce.
Step 4: Finish up with a sprinkle of Tajin seasoning and serve immediately.
How to Store Leftover Tajin Apples
Got some leftovers? Transfer them to an airtight container and refrigerate them for no more than 2 days.
Apples can start to get watery and mushy if stored beyond a day or two, so keep that in mind.
I would recommend chopping up the leftover apples into smaller chunks, and teaming them up with another fruit like kiwi or watermelon along with some jalapenos, red onions and fresh cilantro to turn it into a delicious Mexican salsa.
Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Make sure you cut the apples into even slices for the best balance of crunch, flavor and texture.
- Keep the peel on, or peel the apples before you slice them- it all depends on your personal preference.
- For a bit of extra tangy and citrusy flavor, you can also top the apples with some lime zest. That’s actually exactly what I did when making my cucumber and Tajin salad.
Serving Ideas & Suggestions
Enjoy these delicious and juicy Tajin apples on their own as a healthy snack whenever you’re hit by a hunger pang.
If you’re making these for a get-together or party you’re hosting, team them up with other snacks like Tajin popcorn, avocado pico de gallo or cucumber pico de gallo, some nachos and some spicy jalapeno poppers.
