This lemon Parmesan lettuce salad is fresh, crisp, and bursting with bright flavor. Made with crunchy romaine lettuce, salty Parmesan cheese, sweet honey, tangy lemon juice, and thinly sliced shallots, it is a simple salad that feels surprisingly elegant.
The combination of sweet, savory, and citrusy flavors makes this salad the perfect side dish for everything from grilled Sumac chicken and pasta to sandwiches and soups.

Some of my favorite recipes are the simplest ones, and this salad- like my feta beet cucumber salad is a perfect example. With just a handful of ingredients, you can create something that's light, refreshing, and packed with flavor.
I especially love serving this salad when I need a quick side dish- it's either this or my super simple cucumber tomato salad. Since there's no complicated dressing to make, everything comes together in just a few minutes, making it perfect for busy weeknights or last-minute entertaining.

What's So Great About the Recipe?
- It is super quick and easy to make, and gets ready in just 10 minutes.
- You'll need minimal ingredients and effort to put this together- just like my summer mango avocado salad.
- It is a perfect side dish that pairs well with a variety of meals- kind of like my spicy pineapple cucumber salad.
Recipe Ingredients

Romaine lettuce: The crisp, crunchy base for the salad. You can try using any other kind of lettuce too, but Romaine lettuce is the best for this recipe, in my opinion.
Parmesan: For that salty, nutty flavor and richness. Use crumbled feta cheese if you don't have this.
Shallots: To bring a mild onion flavor without overpowering the salad.
Lemon juice: Adds brightness and acidity. Freshly squeezed is best!
Honey: To balance the tanginess with a touch of sweetness. I like using my habanero hot honey sometimes to bring some extra heat to the salad.
Red pepper flakes: For that subtle kick of heat. You can skip this and just use salt and pepper if you like.
See recipe card for quantities.
Substitutions & Variations
- Swap romaine lettuce for butter lettuce or mixed greens. You can also use a combination of two or more greens if you like.
- Use shaved Parmesan instead of grated Parmesan for a bit of texture.
- Toss in toasted pine nuts or walnuts for crunch. I like sprinkling some of my crunchy salad topper when I have it at hand.
- Add cucumber slices or cherry tomatoes to bulk up the salad if you're making it for a crowd.
- You can also use a simple salad dressing like avocado green goddess dressing or lemon poppy seed dressing to add a different flavor to the salad.
How to Make Lemon Parmesan Lettuce Salad

Step 1: Roughly chop the romaine lettuce and add it to a large serving bowl.

Step 2: Add the grated Parmesan cheese, sliced shallots, and red pepper flakes.

Step 3: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the salad.

Step 4: Drizzle honey and toss well before serving.
💭Top Tip
Wait until just before serving to add the lemon juice and honey. This helps keep the lettuce crisp and prevents it from becoming wilted.

Tips & Tricks to Nail the Recipe
- Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor. For extra citrusy deliciousness, I like to drizzle a bit of my lemon infused oil over the salad too.
- Wash and thoroughly dry the lettuce before assembling the salad, and thinly slice the shallots so they blend nicely with the other ingredients.
- Taste before serving and add extra lemon juice or seasonings if you want to. I like to sprinkle some of my citrus infused salt to finish up.
- Serve immediately for maximum crunch.
How to Serve Lemon Parmesan Lettuce Salad
This salad pairs beautifully with grilled chicken, steak, lemon butter garlic shrimp, and roasted vegetables. It's also a great side dish for pasta, pizza, sandwiches- like my smashed chickpea avocado sandwich, burgers, and soups.
For a more substantial meal, top it with grilled chicken, shrimp, or sliced avocado.

Troubleshooting and FAQs
This salad is best enjoyed immediately after tossing. I wouldn't recommend storing it for more than a day. To store it, simply transfer it to a clean airtight container and refrigerate.
